Earlier, there were speculations that Akshay Kumar’s Bell Bottom will clash with Hollywood’s giant Fast & Furious 9 movie. The led to anxiety and worry between many trades and exhibitors. They wished one of the films to move. Addressing reports of a clash between ‘Fast & Furious 9‘ and ‘Bell Bottom’, Jyala said, “There is a chance that ‘Fast & Furious 9’ may be pushed as two films on the same day is not good for anyone today.”
The times are very tough for everyone. Thus, whether theatres open in Maharashtra or not, producers and exhibitors have come together and decided to go ahead with the release of new films. Just yesterday Akshay Kumar launched the trailer of his film ‘Bell Bottom’ at a live event in Delhi and the movie is slated to release on August 19.
Bell Bottom will NOT clash with the Fast & Furious 9 movie:
Akshaye Rathi, an exhibitor from Maharashtra said, “There is radio silence from the Maharashtra government on reopening as well as relief measures. We can only hope things change between now and August 19.”
Asking the most important question; What if the theatres in Maharashtra aren’t allowed to open? What will the box office loss be like? Rajendra Jyala of Inox Cinema answered, “Maharashtra takes care of a 25 per cent market for films. So, that is the loss producers and exhibitors will incur if cinemas don’t open. But we are optimistic cinemas in Maharashtra will also open soon.”
However, there is still uncertainty of how many theatres are in a position to get reopened and ready to release a film post lockdown. An industry source said, “One cannot discuss or talk about how big the release of ‘Bell Bottom’ or other films will be, as we don’t know how many theatres are healthy enough to open, but there is a chance that ‘Bell Bottom’ may see about 1500 to 2000 screens if most theatres open up.”
