Dilip Kumar refused seven Oscar-winning films & chose Bollywood

The legendary veterinarian actor Dilip Kumar refused seven Oscar-winning films at his time. The reason for this is still unknown for many that why would a talented actor rejected seven films that won Oscar. Dilip Kumar, at his time, was a superstar and is still considered legendary. He was at the peak of his career when he had got offered for these films. The actor didn’t just make films, but he won hearts through his mind-blowing performances in it.

The English director and filmmaker, David Lean, didn’t want to take any European actor in his films. He then reached out to the Bollywood’s megastar Dilip Kumar for the same. Currently, the actor is not active in the Bollywood industry, as due to his age. Although Dilip Kumar refused to work with the filmmaker, and not many people know the reason behind this.  

During his era, Dilip Kumar was not just celebrated in Bollywood, but he was also praised in Hollywood. This was the reason, out of all, he was approached for Hollywood films. The famous filmmaker, David Lean is known for his films like, ‘The Bridge on the River Kwai’; ‘Lawrence of Arabia’ amongst many others. The filmmaker was fond of Indian films, his fourth wife was also an Indian.  

The reason why Dilip Kumar rejected these Hollywood films was that he didn’t have any attraction towards the Hollywood industry. He loved Bollywood and was satisfied working in it. He has not shared much about the reason for the refusal of these seven films to anyone and has not even mentioned it in his autobiography. As per his wife, Saira Banu, Dilip had no interest in moving to Hollywood.
