Crew & Cast above 65 age allowed at sets by Bombay HC – Sets aside state decision

The state government had allowed the shootings in Maharashtra after conducting a meeting. However, some new rules and restrictions were to be followed. Out of these new rules implemented by the government on the sets, one was the ban of senior citizens near shooting grounds. Now, the latest news is that crew & cast above 65 age allowed at sets by the Bombay High court. 

Since the global pandemic of Covid-19, restrictions were implemented around the world. Some of these restrictions were also implied in the entertainment industry by the government. To follow social distancing and prevent the spread of the disease the government had banned all the shootings in India. However, the process of un-lockdown has started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. People have learned to live with the new norm and the deadly disease.

It is a relief to the elder actors and crews working in the entertainment industry. Bombay High Court on Friday quashed and set aside conditions imposed by the Maharashtra government through two Government Resolutions (GR). It had barred any cast or crew members above 65 years at the shooting site of fiction or non-fiction programming during a pandemic. 

Now, the HC cleared that all advisories issued by the governments given the Covid-19 pandemic for persons above 65 years of age, will apply to elderly cast or crew members visiting shooting sets. The cast & crew above 65 age allowed on sets from now-on.  

A division bench of Justice S J Kathawalla and Justice R I Chagla on Friday passed ruling on the pleas challenging the restrictions. Along with actor Pramod Pandey (69). Indian Motion Pictures Producers Association (IMPPA) through advocate Ashok Saraogi also approached the HC. Seeking to quash and set aside conditions imposed by the government on May 30. 

In its 16 pages of guidelines for producers to follow as and when they begin to film and television production, the government had said that while actors above 65 will not be permitted on sets. However, no audience will be allowed for fiction or non-fiction programming.
