He revealed that he had met Dawood Ibrahim in Dubai in March 1988. Rishi Kapoor has also mentioned this meeting in his autobiography.

The actor shared his iconic story of meeting the terrorist and said, He was in Dubai for a show. Along with him, the show also featured RD Burman and Asha Bhosle. As he landed the Dubai airport, a man handed him a phone and said: “Bhai will talk to you.” At first, he thought it might be a call from a fan. To his astonishment, it was a call from Dawood Ibrahim. Dawood said Rishi that he wants to meet him, and will he be able to have tea with him. Rishi replied to him saying that “I will have to go to the Hotel and check-in, then I will let you know.”
In an interview, Rishi Kapoor further revealed that he went to his house and the meeting lasted for over four hours. He said that they took great care of him. Dawood was happy that in a film, Rishi Kapoor’s name was Dawood. Rishi Kapoor was told that Dawood Ibrahim liked the actor for this reason. Although after that, he never spoke to the gangster again. Nevertheless, on the death of Rishi Kapoor’s father, Dawood sent a person to pay special tribute.
