It is Imran Khan’s birthday today and the ex-actor has come a long way as a person to look up to for inspiration. Imran rose to fame with the boost of Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na in 2008. He is still lovingly called Jai Singh Rathore aka Rats from the same movie. He developed the image of a boy-next-door and the fans could only gush for his cuteness and persona. However, Imran quit acting and Bollywood soon after that and his last movie was in 2015 named Katti Batti. As he turns 38 today, it would be the appropriate occasion to look back at his Ask Me Anything session on Reddit in 2014. The reports by Hindustan Times of his AMA states that the man who was loved so much yet did not enjoy too much media attention.
When Imran Khan Hinted at feeling Suffocating in the Bollywood Bubble
One fan asked Imran, “From the interviews I have seen, you seem like one of the few actors who are not completely consumed by Bollywood. You seem to be in touch with the real world. Do you make a conscious effort to keep in touch with the outside world? Also, do you consider yourself an ‘insider’ in the industry?”
To this, he replied, “It’s not really a conscious effort. I’m genuinely not interested in most of the hoopla. I like my quiet, peaceful life, I like my old friends, I like my cats and dogs… Ideally, I’d just make movies and skip the rest of the media circus.”
Answering if he considers himself as an insider, he replied, “My family has always been on the fringes of the industry. You might find it hard to believe now, but there was a time when Aamir was seen as a maverick outsider who had all these ridiculous notions of ‘bound scripts’ and ‘only shooting one film at a time’.”
He also replied to one of the Reddit users, “I don’t watch TV… I’ve worked hard to avoid living in the ‘Bollywood Bubble’, eating, breathing and living movies. It can get very suffocating.”
