Kirti Kulhari of ‘Four More Shots Please‘ fame recently shared her thoughts on a topic that is most prevalent these days, Gender Neutral Society. This has come after Berlin Film Festival made changes in their ways of giving awards. For the best actor male and female, they will only be giving one award, ruling out any gender talks from the industry. When actors like Ayushmann Khurrana were highly elated because of this decision, Kirti Kulhari bluntly feels it was not needed. The actress feels keeping the Best Actor and Best Actress award in the slot was needlessly done.
Kirti Kulhari shares her thoughts on Gender Neutral Award Functions:
The actress said that she feels there is no difference between male and female. However, she still likes the idea of both of them being awarded differently. She said, “I see no difference between male and female. Having said that, I like the idea of males and females being awarded differently and separately for their efforts. While we are fighting for a gender-neutral society, which is great, I think it’s also being pushed to an extent that I feel is not necessary. ”
She also addressed the fact that males and females have different weaknesses and strengths. She was quoted as, “I like the distinction between a male and a female and how they individually are enough in themselves because they have their own strengths and weaknesses. It’s the coming together of the two that kind of makes the society a whole. In this case, I don’t think categorising awards in the same slot was necessary.”
She believes that people believe in following the trends. Now going gender neutral is a hot topic and many industries will soon adopt it. She further added, “On social media if you don’t do what A is doing, for their own reasons, then supporters of A will shame and reprimand you, which is not healthy, I feel.”
