Soon, Alia Bhatt will appear in the Netflix original movie “Darlings,” which she also co-produces. She has recently attacked trolls and questioned people’s viewpoints on pregnancy, and now she speaks out against casual sexism.
Alia Bhatt claimed that she finds those sporadic sexist remarks annoying and that, although she hadn’t previously recognized them, she now does. She expressed outrage that women have to endure remarks regarding bra straps. In a recent interview, she discussed casual sexism and whether she has experienced it like female producers Ekta Kapoor and Rhea Kapoor.
Alia remarked, “I believe that I have occasionally experienced casual misogyny. I would frequently miss it. Oh my God, that was such a sexist comment or that I was essentially the target of intense misogyny in that time, she said, adding that she wasn’t conscious of it before as she is now.”
She continued by saying that she is much more perceptive now and sometimes perceives herself as being hostile. She went on to say that it wasn’t about that but rather the bizarre things others had said about PMS. There were comments like “don’t be so sensitive, you’re being so sensitive. Are you PMSing?” I’m not being sensitive, and even if I am, what the heck does that matter? You were created as a result of PMS in women.
Alia explained further that by talking about seemingly insignificant remarks that were sexist. When someone asked her to hide her bra and she responded that bras were simply clothes.
Bhatt will appear in Darlings with Shefali Shah. The movie appears to be a dark comedy and is slated for Netflix release on August 5th.
