Indian Filmmaker Subhash Ghai finally reveals that he was aware that the actor Sanjay Dutt was innocent when he was arrested. Subhash Ghai says that he knew that Sanjay was not a criminal and he believed he was innocent even when he was arrested.
For the unversed, filmmaker Subhash Ghai and Sanjay Dutt share a close bond. The filmmaker said that he was aware that Sanjay Dutt was innocent in the year 1993 when he was arrested. Let us tell you, Sanjay’s and Subhash’s film Khalnayak was released around the same time and were a big blockbuster.
Subhash further went on to say that he thought it was unethical to cash in during Sanjay Dutt’s tough time. Thus, he did not spend even one rupee on the promotions of their film Khalnayak. Let us tell you, Sanjay Dutt had played the character of a wanted criminal in this film.

Subhash Ghai said, “I have known Sanjay Dutt ever since he was a kid. I directed his second film, Vidhaata. Then after 10 years, I cast him in Khalnayak. I knew him really closely. When he was arrested, I knew he was innocent but was trapped,” he further added, “He was not a criminal.”
For the unversed, in April 1993, Sanjay was arrested under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act. While he was released on bail a month later, his bail was cancelled in 1994, and he was arrested again. He was let out of jail in October 1995.
