Celebs on Period Leave Debates

Bollywood

Recently, a food delivery giant, Zomato, announced period leaves for women working in the company. This step has been taken due to the excruciating pain that women suffer while menstruating. To ease their tensions and work-loads while they menstruate, period leaves would prove to be a relaxation for them.

To gather views from celebrities, Hindustan Times approached them for the same topic. The celebs seem to welcome the initiative taken by Zomato whole-heartedly.

Celebs on Period Leaves:

Twinkle Khanna-

On the going debates about Period Leaves, famous women like Barkha Dutt are against the step taken by Zomato. To take a dig at the baseless debates going on, Twinkle took to her Instagram handle. She shared a picture distinguishing between Equal and Identical. Twinkle has received a lot of love and support from her followers for  the same.

Have a look at her bold words below:

 Maanvi Gagroo:

Actor Maanvi, of ‘Four More Shots Please’ fame, believes that this move will help in normalizing the period talk. Hindustan Times quoted her, “It’ll help in normalising periods and period talk. I strongly believe that it’s important to create an environment of healthy coexistence rather than denying the difference completely. While it may deepen bias in people who are already biased, I feel the same argument can be applied against maternity leave as well, which we’ve now come to accept and rightly so. In fact, if anything, pregnancy is a choice, menstruation isn’t.

Mona Singh:

The gorgeous and opinionated, Mona Singh, said that this move is a necessity. She said, “It is a necessity. If men had periods, I am sure there would be 10 national holidays a year (laughs)! It is also comforting to stay at home when you are bleeding. Women shouldn’t feel ashamed of menstruating, neither should it diminish her confidence. It also should not make working women feel weak while availing the leave. This step will help remove the taboo around menstruation.”

Kubbra Sait:

The Sacred Games actress said, “Menstruation is a taboo. It’s time we normalise it. Period leave isn’t a concession or an excuse to empower women. But we go back ages when we seek empowerment through exemptions. Today, we have what it takes to get to work, irrespective of what day of the month it is. So, we should be treated like any man who knows what it takes for him to get to work, irrespective of what day of the month it
is. We should be treated as equals.”
