PVR, a multiplex network, said on Saturday that Kangana Ranaut’s Thalaivii will be released in Tamil and Telugu on September 10. The news comes only hours after Kangana slammed major multiplex chains on Instagram for refusing to screen Thalaivii on the film’s theatrical release on September 10.
She commented on her Instagram story, “When it comes to major hero films, multiplexes have their own set of laws, which is why Radhe was released simultaneously on ott and in theaters. They released Master with a two-week window, releasing Hollywood films with simultaneous OTT releases in the United States while refusing to screen the South of THALAIVII, which has a four-week window. @pyrcinemas official @inoxmovies the system ensures that no woman reaches to the top and then complains about why we don’t have female superstars bringing crowds to the theater on their own as males do…”
Recently the actor stated that one of India’s largest multiplex chains had agreed to broadcast the film’s South versions. On her Instagram account, she shared a snippet from PVR’s announcement. Kangana commended PVR’s team for their decision in a statement. The Queen actor had previously shared her plight with her fans. It was regarding the entire situation in a lengthy statement on Friday. Kangana had asked multiplex owners to help each other in these tough times, saying she was “heartbroken.”
According to sources, theater chains were dissatisfied with Thalaivii’s producers. They demanded at least a four-week break between the film’s theatrical release and its release on OTT platforms. Theater operators are refusing to show the Hindi version of the film since the window for its Netflix launch is too short.
Kangana Ranaut’s Thalaivii, billed as one of the biggest Bollywood movies this month. It has raised expectations after the trailer piqued people’s interest. Thalaivii would be the third Bollywood film to receive an exclusive theater distribution in India, following Bell Bottom and Chehre.
After Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi in 2019, this is Kangana’s second biopic. Thalaivii, directed by A.L Vijay, is based on the life of late politician Jayalalithaa. Kangana Ranaut will play the titular role of Jayalalithaa in the film.
In addition, the film will be released in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu in theaters around the world. It was supposed to come out in April, however, due to the second wave of Covid-19, it was postponed.
